Intermittent Catheters
With Intermittent catheterization, the patient inserts the catheter through their urethra into the bladder to drain urine several times a day. Leaving urine in your bladder for a long time can lead to a distended bladder or a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Intermittent catheterization may help reduce these potential problems.
Straight Catheters
Straight catheters are part of intermittent catheterization. Straight catheters are designed for patients with chronic bladder problems who cannot naturally empty their bladder. Men and women can use straight tip catheters in their own homes without the assistance of a medical professional. Straight catheters are typically available in various sizes and types.
Coudé Catheters
A coudé catheter is a urinary catheter with a slightly curved tip designed for easy insertion. The curved tip is used to navigate obstacles like enlarged prostate, urethral strictures, or scar tissue. More commonly used in men, coudé catheters can be used in women when they develop obstructions that require a catheter of a curved design. Coudé catheters come in various sizes and types.
